It is with profound heartbreak and deep sorrow we share the unexpected passing of our beloved Jessica Helen Saunders who passed away on June 4th, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. Jessica's vibrant spirit and unwavering love touched the lives of all who knew her.

Jessica will be sadly missed by her loving husband Wes and her beautiful daughters Avianna and Dalia; her parents Brian Cordes (Annette) and Marie Graham (Bob); her father in law and mother in law George and Barb Saunders, brother in law Jamie Saunders (Mandi); and grandparents Ron and Delores Cordes of Guelph, Ontario. Jessica shared a special bond with her four younger brothers, Ron (Mekenzie), Adrian (Carley), Jason (Krystal), and Joel (D). They were her lifelong companions and confidants. Together, they navigated the joys, adventures and challenges of life, supporting and uplifting each other along the way. Jessica will be missed by her many good friends, her nieces, nephews and many aunts, uncles, cousins and colleagues.

Jessica's most cherished role in life was that of a loving wife to her husband, Wes Saunders, and a dedicated mother to her two beautiful little girls. Wes and Jessica's love story was one of true companionship and devotion. Their partnership was a testament to the power of their commitment and unconditional love for each other. Jessica poured her heart and soul into nurturing her children, providing them with unconditional love, guidance, and support. Avianna and Dalia were the center of her world, and she tirelessly devoted herself to their happiness and well-being. Jessica's unconditional love and selflessness created a warm and nurturing environment that will forever be treasured by her children.

Jessica was born in Owen Sound, Ontario on April 26, 1983 and grew up in Thunder Bay. She attended St. Patrick High School, graduating with honors. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology at Lakehead University and went on to complete her Master’s Degree in Public Health. Jessica’s passion for people was very much at the heart of her career in health care. She led Client Centered Care at St. Joseph’s Care Group, co-chairing the Client & Family Council and creating the Client & Family Program from the ground up to ensure the involvement of the voice of clients and families in all the work that St. Joseph’s Care Group does. Her legacy of care is a lasting gift for the community of Thunder Bay and Northwestern Ontario.

Jessica was an exceptional woman with a compassionate and caring nature. She had a way of making everyone feel valued and loved, and her infectious laughter and bright smile could light up any room. Jessica could make anyone she conversed with feel like they were the most important person in the room, giving them her full attention with genuine interest and understanding. Her kindness touched the lives of countless family members, friends, co-workers and acquaintances who were lucky enough to know her. Jessica's warm heart and willingness to lend a helping hand will be remembered as a true testament to her character.

Jessica had a strong commitment to a healthy lifestyle and was an active athlete participating in sports, including volleyball, and outdoor activities throughout her life. She had many interests, including a beautiful garden that she enjoyed puttering in.

Jessica leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will forever resonate in the hearts of her family and friends and her spirit will continue to live on through our memories of the love she shared.

Jessica’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and all the staff at TBRHSC ICU for their excellent, kind, and compassionate care. We would also like to thank all the friends and family members who have provided such caring support.

In memory of Jessica's giving spirit, please donate to the Canadian Mental Health Society or St. Andrews Dew Drop Inn, two of Jessica’s beloved charitable organizations in lieu of flowers.

An open house celebration of life will be held at Goods & Co., 251 Red River Rd, Thunder Bay, Ontario this Tuesday, June 13th between 4pm - 8pm, where friends and family will gather to honour and celebrate Jessica's remarkable life.

In this time of heartache and adjustment, may we find solace in the memories we treasure of our sweet Jessica. May her soul find eternal peace and may her loving spirit guide and watch over her beloved husband, children, and family. Live life like Jessica would, with love in your heart, kindness in your words and a passion for adventure in your soul. We will always miss you Jess.
