Mrs. Joan Cowen, age 89 years, passed away peacefully at home on April 24th, 2022 in the arms of her daughter Dana.

Joan was born May 19, 1932, in Port Arthur, Ontario and attended Port Arthur Technical School.

She held several positions in her early years and was known for being in demand for her smart business sense. Employers included Port Arthur General Hospital, Anaconda, Excelsior Life and Canada Car.

Joan met the love of her life, Peter, at Cambrian Players, where they both enjoyed the art of acting. They married on July 23rd, 1956 and made a happy and loving home for them and their three girls.

Throughout her life Joan and Peter travelled the world and enjoyed meeting all the wonderful people along the way. Their main focus, however, was family.

Joan always enjoyed physical activity and was very vocal on its benefits. She had many great memories of her girls at her exercise class. Her sense of style was impeccable, always had an aura of class about her. All who have known Joan will remember her great sense of humour, cleverness, style, grace and warmth to all.

Joan will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her children Brenda (Tom Delgaty), Dana (Stan Cuconato), and Carol, grandchildren Will, Alayna, Kaitlyn, Rayson and Spencer, great-grandchildren Raelyn, Evalee, Laci and Ayden and numerous nieces and nephews. Also survived by her rescued fur babies Lady Bird and Mickey.

She was predeceased by her husband Peter, parents Art and Stella Marion, sister Elaine O’Brien, and brothers Vernon and Clayton Marion, and son-in-law Chris Martyn.

The family of Joan would like to thank Dr. Fredrickson and Home and Community Care Support Services North West.

Funeral Services for Joan will be held in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre on Monday, May 2, 2022 presided by Rev. Gordon Holroyd at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow the reception in St. Andrew’s RC Cemetery.

For those unable to attend in person, the service will be streamed live and then archived at www.harbourviewfuneral.ca where condolences may be offered as well.

Joan had a great love of animals and if friends so desire, donations may be made in Joan’s memory to any animal rescue charity of their choice. She was an avid supporter of Desi’s Heart Rescue (where her fur babies are from), Save-a-Stray Cat Thunder Bay and the Underground Gym.
