Mrs. Joanne Margaret Geddes, age 76 years, passed away peacefully in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Sunday, March 6, 2011.
Joanne was born in Fort William on May 30, 1934 to Joseph and Anne Hayduk and was a lifetime resident. She met Lorne Geddes at a church curling league and together they raised four children.
In February of this year they celebrated 50 years of marriage. Joanne's life was dedicated to raising her family and she was happiest during time spent with her children and grandchildren. She always encouraged them to read and excel in their academic studies.
She loved the arts, listening to music, curling in younger years with Lorne, knitting, sewing, crocheting, and cooking for family and friends. Joanne was a member of Corpus Christi R.C. Church and the C.W.L.
She will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her husband Lorne, children: Kathryn (Steve) Poling, Maryanne Geddes, John (Irena) Geddes, and Paul (Karen) Geddes; grandchildren: Justin, Ryan, Michael, Joshua, Megan, Gordon and Eva; as well as by nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister Bernadette Hayduk. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 11, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street, with Rev. Richard Kowalchuk of Corpus Christi R.C. Church presiding.
As expressions of sympathy memorials to the TBRHSC Foundation-Renal Unit or the Kidney Foundation would be appreciated.
