Mr. John Garnet Collins (“Jack”), age 79, passed in peace at St Joseph’s Hospital on Tuesday November 21st, 2023, after a tireless fight against the odds. He faced numerous ailments with courage, resilience, and steadfast determination. His spirit was indomitable and his will to live was a true inspiration to all who knew him.

John, who many knew as Jack, was born on January 14, 1944, in Weyburn Saskatchewan to John and Loreena Collins. He grew up in small farming towns in Saskatchewan, and later spent time in Manitoba. John eventually moved to Neebing, Ontario where he settled down, started a family and made lifelong friendships.

John took immense pride in his many vegetable gardens that produced the most delicious corn on the cob, tomatoes, cucumbers and more each year. He loved nature, the James Bond series, listening to Winnipeg radio station CJOB, and collecting trains, stamps and coins. He was a big fan of the Winnipeg Jets and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He had so much unconditional love for the family pets, whose companionship and loyalty brought joy and comfort to his life even during the toughest times.

John is survived by his sons Thomas (Ashley Collins) and Sean (Sember Sault), their mother Linda Collins, his beloved only granddaughter Olivia, and his best fur-friends Mickey and Benji. He was predeceased by his parents John and Loreena Collins, and cherished pets Duke, King, Myles and Bear.

In honour of his memory, donations can be made to St. Joseph’s Foundation of Thunder Bay, a cause John held near and dear to his heart.

Dad’s legacy of resilience and determination will forever be etched in our hearts. His unwavering spirit will continue to inspire us, reminding us to never give up.

We love you Dad, rest in peace.
