Mr. John T. Dunlop, age 66 years, passed away with loved ones by his side on Friday, May 21, 2010 in T.B.R.H.S.C.
John was born March 24, 1944 in London, England. He was raised in Scotland and immigrated to Canada in 1974. He worked as an electrician for the Lakehead Board of Education and Great Lakes Paper (Bowater), retiring in 2000. He was an active member of IBEW local #1565, Port Arthur Lodge A.F & A.M. No.499 G.R.C., Red Rock Lodge and the Royal Canadian Legion – Branch #5.
John was an ardent soccer fan. He was a staunch Celtic supporter and, in his younger years, played with Finlandia United. Among his varied interests, John enjoyed golfing, travelling, reading, going to camp, and spending time with his family, friends, and dog, Seven.
John is survived by his wife of 25 years, Mary; children Lisa “Liz” Christiansen, Peter (Cindy) and, Kirsty; grandson, Mathew; sister Winifred (Drew) Sloan; brother Peter and Aunt Frieda Bishop, cousins, friends and other relatives. Predeceased by his mother Winifred.
Funeral Services for the late Mr. John Dunlop will be held on Friday, May 28, 2010 at 1:00 PM in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to service time. A Masonic Lodge Service under the auspices of Port Arthur Lodge #499 A.F & A.M will precede the funeral. If friends so desire, donations in memory of John may be made to the George Jeffrey Children's Treatment Centre or the Hospital for Sick Children.
