It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce Mr. John Edward Nichols, age 56 years, resident of Thunder Bay, passed away unexpectedly at TBRHSC on April 20, 2015 with family by his side.

John was born in Guelph, ON in 1958. John later took interest in studying forestry, leading him to work for the MNR fire watch.  John enjoyed visiting with friends and family, telling stories, going for walks, and watching sports games. John always had a passion for baseball, whether it be working grounds keeper at the world Juniors or going to watch the Toronto Blue Jays play.

John will be sadly missed by his wife Susan; children Samantha (Randall) and James Nichols; sisters Diane (Joe) Rys and Gail Dixon; brother Ronnie (Betty) Nichols; his close friends Steve, Carol, Randy and his canine companion Solo.  John was predeceased by his parents, Roselind and John.  John will be greatly missed by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 24, 2015 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, presided by Rev. Fr. Chris Harper. 

Interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens will follow the reception. 

Visitation for family and friends will begin one hour prior to the service.  Should friends so desire, donations may be made in John’s memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the TBRHS Foundation - Northern Cancer Fund.

And the gulls are wheeling overhead

When the autumn wind sweeps the cloudy sky

And one by one the leaves are shed”
