With deep sorrow I announce the passing of my brother and best friend, John Edward Ternowesky, age 80. John passed away April 5th, 2024 unexpectedly at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital.

John started his working career at United Grain Growers, but his real passion was prospecting for minerals. Over the years John prospected with many different partners. John prospected throughout Ontario and the Nevada Desert; he even did business in Trump Towers. His claim to fame was being one of the original prospectors who found evidence of an economic deposit at what would become the Harte Gold Mine in White River area, now Silver Lake Resources. Northwestern Ontario Prospectors Association commended John with the “Dave Christianson Lifetime Achievement Award” for the year 2008.

In his quiet time he would like to watch old movies and feed his birds and squirrels.

He is lovingly remembered by sister Cindy (Wendell), cousin Leonard Huskie, and best friend and partner Gene Belisle (Judy). He was predeceased by his parents Marie and Jack Ternowesky, sister Shirley Dinner, brother William “Bill” Ternowesky, cousins Betty Huskie and Eileen Hilliard, auntie Irene and uncle Jack Huskie; and beloved cats Whiskers and Minnie.

Cindy and Wendell would like to thank Jim Foley and Christa (John’s neighbours) and the Thunder Bay Police, Fire, and Paramedics. Thank you to friends and family for the calls, kind words, and sharing of fond memories. As a tribute to John’s love for animals, donations to the Thunder Bay & District Humane Society are encouraged in lieu of flowers.

A celebration of John’s life will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Sargent & Son Funeral Home. The service will also be livestreamed via Sargent & Son Facebook page.
