It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John on January 24, 2023 at the age of 77. He was a father, grandfather, brother, uncle and dear friend. John attended The Ontario College of Art and loved to draw. His wonderful sense of humour and wit was especially evident in his cartoon drawings.

He began his working career with the Provincial Paper Mill and remained there until the mill closed. Golf was a game he loved and spent many hours on courses throughout the city but Strathcona was his favourite. He also enjoyed playing cards with friends and also made a number of trips to Las Vegas to try and break the bank.

John was a sun worshipper and enjoyed his winters in Arizona where he would meet up with family and friends for barbecues and get togethers.

He was an excellent cook and enjoyed experimenting with new recipes and making them his own. He never measured anything it was "a little bit of this and a little bit of that".

Unfortunately, he was in a couple of serious car accidents which left his body quite broken. He met every challenge in an accepting way and remained cheerful and positive despite his disability. John carried on and never complained about the constant pain he was in.

He had a special relationship with his long-time partner, Ria Stadnik. They were loving companions that enjoyed life to the fullest. She was a very important part of John's life and he cared for her deeply.

John is survived by his daughter Angel (Kumada) 2 grandsons Noah and Craeme in Nanaimo; sister Marian Langlois (George); sister-in-law-law Glenys Ponto; partner Ria Stadnik; nephew Michael and nieces Michelle and Marlas. John was predeceased by his parents Nicholas and Rose, grandson Jonas and brother Arthur.

John's final words were "slow down, enjoy life and your loved ones".

As per John's wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no service. Should friends so desire donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
