Juho “John” Nurmimaki, age 84 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully at home with wife Liisa by his side on Friday, December 23, 2016.
Juho was born in Alavus, Finland and immigrated to Sudbury, Ontario, moving to Port Arthur in 1958. Juho loved to travel and spent the last nine winters in Florida with Liisa and then spent the summers at their cottage at Surprise Lake, where he could relax and feed his birds and squirrels. Juho was a quiet, loving person who enjoyed life.
Juho will be sadly missed by his wife Liisa,step children Keijo, Karlo and his daughters Jessica and Melissa, South Porcupine, Katrina (Richard), and their children Brendin and Brianna, Acton, cousin Jorma Veittiaho (Liisa) and family, Sault Ste Marie. Also survived by brothers Sulo and Jalo, niece Kirsi and nephew Pekka in Finland.
Juho was predeceased byhis first wife Irene, sister Anneli and brother-in-lawArmas in Finland.
Juho will be lovingly remembered by the Luoma family and numerous friends and distant relatives in Finland, Canada and the United States.
Funeral Services for Juho will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 6, 2017 at Hilldale Lutheran Church, 321 Hilldale Road, presided by Pastor Jari Lahtinen. Visitation for family and friends will begin one hour prior to the service.
Should friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Prostate Cancer Canada Network-Thunder Bay, or Hilldale Lutheran Church.
