It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Kaj Ernst Hansen, on May 20, 2014.

Kaj was born in Aalborg, Denmark to Marius and Gerda Hansen, on March 23, 1926, the second youngest of three children. At the age of 2, Kaj, his mother Gerda and older sister Signe immigrated to Canada to join his father Marius at the family homestead at Pass Lake. They arrived two days before Christmas.

The family took up homestead on a 160 acre parcel of land and turned the land into a well cared for family farm. Kaj was very proud of his Danish heritage and the fact that his family were pioneer residents of Pass Lake.

On November 8th, 1947 he married Audrey Riley. Together they raised two sons, Jim and John. In that same year, Kaj started working for Gibson Motors as a mechanic and enjoyed a career that extended 46 years until his retirement at age 67. Kaj was very proud to be a “Ford Man“ and was always sought out by family and friends even after retirement, for advice or help with their vehicles.

Kaj was a quiet, hard working man who enjoyed the simple things in life. Spending time at the family camp at Moonlight Beach, helping his neighbours with whatever needed to be done or just spending time with his grandson Jeremy brought him immense pleasure. Kaj was a man who gave and expected nothing in return.

Kaj will be dearly missed by Audrey, his wife of 66 years, son Jim, daughter-in-law Marsha, grandson Jeremy and his wife Chantell, his special great-grandson Ryder, who brought Gramps so much joy, granddaughters Jennifer and Lisa Hansen, brother Tony Hansen, sister-in-law Evelyn Hansen, as well as by nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Kaj was predeceased by his son John, parents Marius and Gerda Hansen, sister Signe and her husband Rudy Rentz, in-laws Robert and Florida Riley, sisters and brothers-in-law Shirley and Gordon Adams, Toots and Gilbert Gerow, Roger, Jimmy and Barry Riley.

Cremation has taken place and memorial service for Kaj Ernst Hansen will be held on Monday, May 26, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Michael & All Angels Anglican Church with Rev. Christopher Harper officiating. Flowers gratefully declined. Should friends so desire, donations to the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements are in care of the Sargent & Son Funeral Directors, 21 N. Court Street.
