Mrs. Kay Petrick, age 103 years and a resident of Southbridge Pinewood Court, passed away on October 13, 2022.
Born in Chatfield, Manitoba August 12, 1919, Kay was the daughter of Fred and Ann Leduchowski who farmed in the inner lake area of Winnipeg. Kay received her education in the rural Wheathill Public School and played an active part in girl sports, primarily baseball. Kay moved to Thunder Bay in 1940 where she was employed at the Avenue Hotel for two years, then at Can Car, and later Confederation College as a housekeeper. Kay met her husband John and they were married on September 23, 1944.
Kay was blessed with two sons, Clayton and Gary, and resided at Jumbo Gardens until they purchased property on Arthur Street and struggled to build a home for the family. Through the tragic loss of her two sons, Gary in 1975, and Clayton in 1992, she shared her strength and compassion with many of her friends who also suffered the loss of loved ones.
Kay was always one to volunteer her talents as a cook at the Bible camp in Aurora. She delivered Meals on Wheels for years as well as volunteered at Red Cross where she was a blood donor. Kay was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, and enjoyed being active in gyms, walking and exercising on a daily basis. In her later years, she enjoyed square dancing as a member of the Thunder Bay Capers Square Dancing Club. Kay went on many bus tours with her husband, as well as spending Christmas in Barbados. Kay also enjoyed the camp at Hick’s Lake which they built together. Many good times were spent with the kids at the lake.
Kay is survived by her daughter-in- law Caroline Petrick and grandson Christopher (Kirby), great grandson Casper Petrick, and sister Gloria Leduchowski from Guelph, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by both parents, Fred and Ann Leduchowski and her two sons Gary and Clayton; her sister Mary Marytniuk of British Columbia, brothers John Leduchowski of Thunder Bay, Harry Leduchowski of Toronto, Steve Leduchowski of Geraldton, Alex, Joe, Kost, Paul, Mike, Dan, George Leduchowski of Chatfield, Manitoba.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church, 560 North May Street, presided by Pastor Brian Falkenholt. Interment in Mountain View Cemetery will follow the reception. Should friends so desire, donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or charity of choice.
