Mr. Kenneth M. Currie, age 71, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on February 16, 2015, with family by his side, after a lengthy and hard fought battle with cancer. He was born on January 24, 1944 in Rose Valley, Saskatchewan. He was raised and educated in Archerwill, Saskatchewan.

His first job was in Squaw Rapids, Saskatchewan, building a dam. From there he left for Alberta and was employed by Alberta Wheat Pool building elevators. He also worked on the oil rigs, then it was on to Manitoba, where he worked on the diamond drills for Mid West.

In July of 1966 Ken travelled east to Atikokan, ON to go to work on the Trans Canada Pipeline. It was the start of his life's work in construction with the Operating Engineers Local 793 as a crane and heavy equipment operator.

On January 27,1968, he married the love of his life, Pat (nee Lawlis) in Kenora ON.

Ken will be lovingly remembered by his wife Pat and his son Calvin (Brandy) and their daughters Caly, Shirley-Lynn and great-grandson Kenneth; son Jason and his daughters, Jaymie, Jessica and their mother Michelle. He is survived by his aunt Margaret Currie and numerous cousins out West. Ken is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law Dot and Bud Kufflick, Kenora, ON; Pat’s aunt Eva, Kenora, ON; Evelyn and Peter Hughes, Winnipeg, MB; also his nieces and nephews and families.

He was predeceased by his parents Roy and Mildred, brother Neil and numerous aunts and uncles and other relatives.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 24th in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, led by Lorne Gernat. Visitation for family and friends will begin one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Thunder Bay Regional Cancer Centre.
