It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Ken Kurish on Wednesday July 10, 2024, surrounded by many of his family members at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital.

Ken Kurish will be sadly missed by Rosemary, his sweetheart of 64 years as of July 16, 2024. Ken will also be missed by his daughters Brenda-Lee (Terry), Mary-Rose (Ann), and his sons John (Ann), Glenn, and Robert (Cathy). Ken will also be missed by his many grandchildren Susan, Shown, Lisa, Caolan, Lachlan, Jared, Joshua, Michael, Andrew, Jacob, and Ben.

Ken was predeceased by his Father Jacob Kurish, his Stepfather Clarence, his mother Mary, his sisters Dorothy (Edward), Gladys, Beatrice (Harry), sister Sandra, and brother Sheridan.

Ken Kurish was born in the city of Fort William, Ontario and spent many years growing and learning about the adventures called life. Ken moved to Geraldton, Ontario at the request of Mr. Bert Parker so that Ken could continue his teaching career. It was here at B.A. Parker Public School that he was to meet the love of his life, Rosemary. Between the two of them they educated our future for over 70 years in total.

Mr. Kurish was known as a teacher who made Science come alive for his students. He often brought live animals, local tree samples, and ample mine rock samples into the classroom. It was here that he was able to give his students the hands-on experience that he believed they all needed so that they would have a better understanding and appreciation of their environment.

A Celebration of Ken Kurish’s life will be held on Saturday August the 17th, 2024 at Geraldton Faith Chapel, Geraldton, Ontario. The service begins at 1pm with a lunch following at a location to be determined.

For those who wish, a memorial contribution to Geraldton Faith Chapel in memory of Ken Kurish would be greatly appreciated.
