It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Kenneth (Scott) Maticic, age 58, resident of Thunder Bay, Ontario, who passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on Monday, August 12th, 2024.

Born in Thunder Bay, Ontario on October 7th, 1965, Scott attended St. Margaret, St. Ignatius and finished his studies at Lakeview High School.

Scott moved to Vancouver, B.C. in 1989 working as a self-contractor, and enjoyed his time near the beach and the mountains. Moving back to Thunder Bay in 2009 to be closer to his family, he worked various jobs, however the last several years he spent as a long-haul truck driver working for Manitoulin Transportation.

Scott will forever be known for his infectious smile and kind heart. He had many hobbies, but playing tennis was always his top priority. Scott spent most of his free time at the Thunder Bay Tennis Centre, where he made many lifelong friends. He was so looking forward to being able to play year-round under the new bubble. His other passions included fishing, travelling and driving his Corvette.

Scott will be dearly missed by all his family and friends. He is survived by his three siblings Marie (Danny), Steven (Diana), and Joey (Connie). He was the most fun-loving uncle and friend to his nieces Brenna and Taylor, and nephews Tyler, Alex, Andrew and Brent. Scott cared deeply for all his extended family- he won’t be forgotten by many cousins, aunts, uncles and other family members that Scott held very near and dear to his heart.

Scott is predeceased by both his parents, Joseph and Margaret (Peggy) Maticic.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to all his doctors and nurses who have provided exceptional care for him over his 5-year battle with cancer. A sincere thanks to all the staff at the Cancer Centre and 1A at the TBRHSC.

Lastly, the family would like to deeply thank and extend their appreciation to Dr. DelPaggio, for treating Scott not only as a patient, but as a friend. Thank you to Dr. Ward, for all her efforts to bring Scott home where he so wanted to be. To the amazing nurses, Julie, Monica, Dayna, Maddie and Julia from ParaMed, and to cousin Cheryl Grieve Tournquist who helped care for Scott at home, we are forever grateful.

Cremation has taken place, and no service will be held, as per Scott’s wishes. A family gathering to honor Scott will be held at a later date.
