It is with heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Laddie Kukula, age 71, on November 29th, 2023, with his family by his side after a short battle with cancer.
Laddie started his first job at a young age at Breukelman’s potato farm, then began working for Great Lakes Paper in 1973 as a cut and skid duo with his brother John. In 1975, Laddie began his lifelong career truck driving on the town haul. Laddie purchased his first Western Star to start his own company, L. Kukula Trucking, in 1986, until his retirement. His retirement years were filled with his love of Harley’s and horses.
Over the years, some of Laddie’s favourite things were camping, fishing and travelling to several destinations on his Harley, including many trips to Sturgis with family and friends. He also liked to gather at the local Tim’s for coffee with his Buddies. With the generous help of the Allen family, he took over the care of his brother John’s horses. Summers were dedicated to bringing in the best hay for Two Socks and the wild bunch, with the help of friends and family. Laddie was never idle; he was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Survived by his daughter Mary Hurley (Cory), grandchildren Sam (David), Ashley (Aaron), great-granddaughter Leah, son Chris (Aly), grandsons Brandon, Michael and granddaughter Hailey, sister Joanne Martin (Brad), niece Lindsey “his Best Bud” (Jesse), great nephew Jacob, brother Anthony (Tammy), niece Jodene, Eddie Bullock (3/4/Kuke), as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins in the United States and Europe, especially his beloved horse “Two socks”.
Laddie was predeceased by his parents John and Kveta Marie Kukula and his brother John.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at both TBRHSC 2B and the Palliative and Hospice care at St Joseph’s. Special thanks to Laddie’s friends and neighbours who were always there for him especially through these difficult times.
Cremation has taken place. A blessing and a celebration of life will take place on December 19th, 2023, 12-3pm in the Michelangelo Room at the Da Vinci Centre. A private family interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to the charity of your choice.
In Laddie’s words, “Bye for now”.
