LARRY DIKA
December 19, 1954 – January 22, 2024
Mr. Larry Alexander Dika, age 69 years, passed away peacefully in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Monday, January 22, 2024 with his family by his side.
Larry was born in Fort William on December 19, 1954 to Frank and Betty (nee Corbett) Dika. He was educated locally and went on to have a successful career as a Heavy Equipment Operator. He met Ruth Ganth and they were married on December 8, 1978. In his younger years, Larry’s favourite thing to do was be outside. So when it came to school, he tried every excuse he could think of to get out of it. He felt he had more important things to do. One of those things was to learn how to operate heavy equipment and he started that at the age of 12. The other thing he enjoyed was hanging out with friends. After Larry married the love of his life, Ruth, they decided to start a family. Together, they had 2 wonderful daughters, Heather and Lisa. He also had 3 grandchildren he adored named Erika, Nino and Veronica, as well as his great granddaughter named Onyx, who was the apple of his eye. For Larry, family was the most important thing and he would do anything for them. Larry’s love of the outdoors carried throughout his life. He loved to fish, go camping, stock car racing, snowmobiling, and most importantly spend time with his family. Larry loved Elvis music and listened to it all the time. Larry had a wicked sense of humour and loved to joke around. He always had his own way of doing things and his own timeline. And he always liked to have the last word and he did until his last breath. Larry will be missed by his family more than words can say and loved more than words can express.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Ruth; children Heather (Luca) and Lisa; grandchildren Erika (Jerry), Nino and Veronica; great granddaughter Onyx as well as numerous other family members.
He was predeceased by his parents and several other family members.
The family would like to thank Dr. Webster for his years of care. Dr. Acedillo and all the wonderful nurses of the Renal Unit. All the wonderful doctors, nurses, and PSW’s of 2B and 2A at the hospital. Also the amazing team of Dr. Kovacs and her ICU team. Plus the PSW’s from Bayshore who cared for Larry.
A come and go visitation and viewing for Larry's family and friends will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 from 10:00am until 1:00pm in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James. Cremation will follow with interment at a later date.
Should friends so desire, donations made in memory of Larry to the Kidney Foundation, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Thunder Bay and District Humane Society or another charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
