It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great grandmother on Oct 5th at Pioneer Ridge. Laura was born August 10, 1931, the same day as her father in Alberta Canada. Shortly after the family came to settle in Fort William. Laura married the love of her life Walter and had 5 beautiful children. In the process of raising her 5 children she furthered her education by becoming a nurse. She worked at McKellar, Westmount and retired from Grandview Lodge. She had a great talent for investing in real estate, always wore her white hard hat LOL!

Laura had a passion for cooking her “Dobre” cabbage rolls. Laura gathered her family every year to make her delicious apple pies that came from her own apple trees. Laura loved to shop “did she shop”! Eaton’s surprise sale was her favorite with lunch to follow. She volunteered and was an active member along with her husband Walter at the Robertson Ukrainian Hall/Church. Laura was well loved and known for her great sense of humor.

Laura was predeceased by her husband Walter Sr., son Walter Jr., parents Lawrence and Mary, her brothers Bill, Anthony and Edward Garbos. Laura is survived by daughters Janet (Ken), Helen Coghlan (Bob), Catherine Lamb, Raymond (Morizia). Grandchildren Shamus Coghlan (Julia), Lovina Gladu (Jeremiah), Vanessa Lamb, Erika Comeau (Aaron), Stephen (Ashly), Jennifer Rathje (Blake), Lauren Speer (Daniel), Nicole, Brittany and 17 great grandchildren.

At this time our family would like to thank the doctors, staff at Pioneer Ridge for all their care, compassion and friendship over the years. Cremation has already taken place. There will be an announcement at a later date for a celebration of life for our mom.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ukrainian War fund.
