It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Laurie Turgeon, 63 years of age, on Friday October 25th, 2024 at the Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre. Laurie was a mother, wife, grandparent and friend to many.
Laurie was born on April 22nd, 1961 and came to Kenora when she was 16 and worked for Toland & Hewitson in the construction sector during her twenties. Laurie pursued a career in nursing and soon after had her son, Dylan, who she cherished more than anything. Laurie worked as a nurse at Birchwood in Kenora before she had to change careers due to an injury. She worked in corrections for the remainder of her adult career and was a well-respected employee in her department for many years until another injury caused her to no longer work. Laurie met her husband, John Kowalchuk in 2000 and they spent the last 24 years together.
Laurie will be missed by her loving spouse, John; son, Dylan, step-children Ashton and Emma (Alex), brother Randy, 6 grandchildren and close friends Nancy, Cindy, Donna and Shirley as well as many other family members & friends near and far. Laurie is pre-deceased by her parents Annamae and Joe Turgeon.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses and whole team in the trauma unit for the dedication and compassion that was given to Laurie and family.
Cremation has taken place and we will be holding a special service in the near future.
Laurie, we will carry your love in our hearts and soul and you will be deeply missed. We know you are at peace now.. Until we meet again.
