Mrs. Liida Milada Kaattari, age 92 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at her residence at Roseview Manor.

Liida was born in Eskola, Finland on March 31, 1924 to Otto and Olga Ahola. In 1945 she married Uuno, they immigrated to Port Arthur in 1957.

Mom and Dad made many trips to Finland and Florida, but most of all the best times were spent at the cottage. Mom was well known for her knitting and crocheting. She made many beautiful doilies and wool wall hangings. Also, with her green thumb as we called it, she had the most beautiful flowers always blooming on the living room window. And OH!

That coffee table! It did not matter whenever you dropped in for a visit, it was full of sandwiches, cakes, coffee bread and of course the punna buns.

Mom leaves to mourn children: Anneli Smith, Aarre (Corinne) and Helena (Gerry); grandchildren: Troy, Kim and Treena; great grandchildren: Sasha, Waylan, Josey, Jocelyne, Jake and Kaileigh; as well as some relatives in Finland. She was was predeceased by Uuno, her loving husband of 69 years.

Cremation has taken place, and there will be no service. A family gathering will be held at a later date.

The family would like to thank Roseview Manor, Champlain House, all the nurses and staff for taking such passionate care of Liida (Mummy) during her time there.
