Mrs. Linda Elizabeth Sargent, age 73 years, passed away peacefully with family at her side in the T.B.R.H.S.C. on Friday, October 14, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer. Linda was born in Toronto on April 9, 1943, the daughter of Madeleine and Michael Alan Contway.

Growing up in Toronto she graduated as a Registered Nurse from St. Michael's Hospital School of Nursing and began working at St. Michael's Hospital. She married Jim Sargent and moved to Thunder Bay where she worked at the St. Joseph's Hospital before working at Confederation College and most recently working with her family as the Reception Centre Coordinator at Sargent & Son Funeral Home.

She and Jim raised two children Michael and Greg. Linda was a wonderful mother to her two sons, always being so very supportive of their various endeavors. Whether it was at an ice cold outdoor hockey rink or a snow covered football field the boys always knew that when they looked over to the stands they would find their mother there for them. Her love for her family grew even more with the addition of her daughters-in-law Jennifer and Allison and then her grandchildren Danielle, Nicholas, Jacob and Samuel. "Grandma", as she was now so affectionately known, carried the support she gave to her children onto her grandchildren, the four of whom were her greatest pride and joy.

Her love and support for family and friends was extended to all of them, especially her nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Linda's door was always open for her family and friends and because of this she enjoyed a very special relationship with so many of her children's friends. She was also a woman who gave back to her community volunteering with various organizations over the years including serving as a Past Chair of the Port Arthur General Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, and most recently with the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. An athlete in her own right Linda had a passion for golf and was a long time member of the Thunder Bay Country Club where she was a former Club Champion. She was a longtime and active member of Corpus Christi R.C. Church. Linda was a woman of great faith, character and courage who overcame many hurdles during her lifetime.

Her faith in God gave her great hope, her character taught us how to do things the right way and her courage inspired us to face challenges head on.

She will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her sons Michael (Jennifer) and Greg (Allison), grandchildren: Danielle, Nicholas, Jacob and Samuel, sisters Marnie (Bruce) Ferguson, Madeleine Raino and Martha Contway, sisters-in-law Marsha Contway and Joanne (Bill) Scott, brother-in-law Sandy (Debbie) Sargent as well as by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her husband James L. Sargent, brother David Contway and her parents.

Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 when family and friends will gather in Corpus Christi R.C. Church for the Funeral Mass beginning at 11:00 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Victor DeGagne.

Visitation for friends will be held on Tuesday, from 5-7 p.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street, where the Vigil Service will begin at 7 p.m. As expressions of sympathy memorials to the T.B.R.H.S. Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
