On September, 3rd, 2023, Linda Louise Spooner, who loved to be called “Bubba” by her Grandkids, passed away peacefully at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital with her beloved husband Alan and daughter Beth by her side. She was 72 years old.

Linda was born January 1, 1951 to Russel and Ollie Vibert and was the 1st baby born that year in Fort William. She was taken home to Rosslyn Village to grow and go to school at Rosslyn Village School then to the “city” for high school and nursing school.

Alan and Linda married in 1973 and for 50 years resided in Rosslyn Village together. They have enjoyed countless summers at Arrow Lake, winters in Texas and travel adventures together. There were trips to visit their daughter in British Columbia and to welcome the arrival of their grandchildren Eilyn and Elyot.

As a nurse, Linda was known for her caring nature. She graduated from nursing in 1972 and worked at McKellar Hospital on the maternity and neuro floors before transitioning to the Thunder Bay District Health Unit, where she developed the genetic counselling program until her retirement in 2006. Throughout her career her nurturing and selfless nature allowed her to build lifelong friendships while helping numerous families navigate difficult times.

In a word, Linda was creative. Her love for her family and keen attention to detail drove all of her pursuits. Family dinners, elaborate dinner parties, beautiful gardens and creating exquisite art are things she’s best known for. Her passion was creation and she was an accomplished artist. She made stunning stained and fused glass pieces. From watercolour Christmas cards, to adorable knit sweaters, toques, mittens, scarves, slippers and family quilts. Linda was extremely talented and would never hesitate to shower family and friends with her thoughtful creations. Most recently she made every child in the family a one of a kind quilt. To Linda the mastery was in the details. She put her heart into everything she did and it always showed in the final product. Her pieces are treasures.

Linda was predeceased by her father Russel Vibert and mother Ollie (Wakewich) Vibert; her sister Jackie Vibert; her brother-in-law Bill Melnyk; brother Glen Vibert and his wife Gerry.

She is survived by her husband Alan; daughter Beth (Mike); grandchildren Eilyn, Elyot, Noah, Felix; niece Megan, her husband Mike and their children Lincoln and Madelyn; nephew Cory and nephew Jeff, his wife Melanie and their children Tenley and Remi. She loved the children so much and doted on them often.

A celebration of the life of Linda Spooner will be held on Friday, September 29th at 11am at St. Mark’s Anglican Church in Rosslyn Village.  For those unable to attend, the service will be broadcast live at the following link: https://www.facebook.com/events/864049675279303/
