With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Magdalena (Magda) Kibiuk at the age of 97, while at Hogarth Riverview Manor. She will be remembered as a loving, caring and devoted mother and friend.

Magda was born in Austria in 1926, made her way to England in 1948, then migrated to Canada in 1951. Mom entered the work force first, at a small restaurant in Westfort on Fredrica St. where she learned more English. Eventually moved on to her long-time job at the Westfort Hotel as a cook. Then to Chapples Golf Course as a cook until she suffered a stroke in 1989. Meals at mom’s will be remembered by many!

Mom had three daughters; Donna Lavoie (Pat Fraser), Irene Rangers, and Vera Christiansen (Bob Frolic) of Barrie, ON. Grandchildren; Richard (Marci) Rangers of Mission, BC, and Derek Lavoie (Jamie MacDonald). Great-grandchildren; Mackenzie, Dakota and Jayda Rangers, and Jocelyn Lavoie.

Predeceased by her parents and two brothers in Austria, and her daughter Irene in 1995 in Canada.

Mom enjoyed going to the Polish Legion on Simpson St. where she loved socializing and dancing. There she met her long-time best “Male” friend, Wally Ziemba. Wally got mom hooked on baseball to which she was a “Bluejays” fan. They would often go for rides to Minnesota, be it Grand Portage, Grand Marais, Duluth, or Black Bear. They either spoke or saw each other daily. He was a God send to mom. Sadly, she/we lost him to his passing in 2016. Mom loved her grandkids and great grandkids. Mom was a devoted church goer at St. Thomas Anglican Church.

Special thanks to Pat Fraser, Joni Gale, Pat Inch, and Dorothy Hertz for being there for mom.

Service for Magda will be on Saturday, June 15 at 11:00 am at St. Thomas Church on S. Edward St.
