On March 26, 2025, Mrs. Maila Kyllikki Taylor, age 92, reached the end of her long journey with dementia. Mom passed away peacefully at Hogarth Riverview Manor with her daughter by her side.
Maila was the baby of the family, born in Kaministiqua to parents Simo and Anna Ijas on February 2, 1933. As a child growing up in Port Arthur, Maila loved school and was heartbroken to quit before finishing high school to enter the work force. However, she ended up enjoying her job at the bank and often shared stories about her various responsibilities during her time there. Once she married Ken in 1952, Maila became a full-time homemaker and mother and took care of their growing family. Many memories were made going camping and fishing, downhill skiing, and participating in the stock car club.
Later when the kids were grown, Maila was happy to return to her education to became a certified Health Care Aide, which she was very proud of, and worked in several LTC homes and for Comcare until her retirement.
Maila also pursued many hobbies throughout her life - she especially loved to read, enjoyed music and dancing, oil painting, writing spooky stories, learning about archeology, and was a collector of antiques.
Mom will always be remembered with love by her children Murray (Carol), Kenny (Anna), Tracy, and Kristi (Clint), grandchildren Jacqie (Chris), Jason, Mike, and Steven, sister Liisa, and several nieces. She was predeceased by her parents, (ex)husband Ken, sister Erie, brother-in-law John, son Greg, grandson James, and friend Mark.
The family would like to extend our appreciation to the staff at SLGA and HRM-7N Trillium for their support and care of mom these past 12 years.
As per mom's wishes, Northwest Funeral Alternative has taken care of cremation and no service will be held. Private interment at Riverside Cemetery will take place at a later date.
If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the St. Joseph's Foundation.
