Mrs. Maire Vesa, age 93 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully in Roseview Manor on June 6, 2016.
Maire was born in Finland on November 30, 1922, and immigrated to Canada from Kuusankoski, Finland, in 1951. She ran a successful hairdressing business from her home on Machar Avenue for many years until her retirement. Maire was a very active member of the Finlandia Club and loved dancing, singing in the choir, and playing cards with her friends.
Maire had a talent for knitting and crochet and produced beautiful clothing and blankets for all of her grandchildren.
Maire will be sadly missed by her sons, Seppo (Bianca) and Mikko (Esther), grandchildren, Jessica (Lynn) Sheridan, Lisa (Morgan Little), Cheri Lappage (Andrew Fiset) and Gary, as well as great-grandchildren Luke, Laila, Caleb, Rachel, and Aleksander. Numerous other relatives also survive.
Cremation has taken place. As requested a private family service has been held at Harbourview Funeral Centre. If friends so desire, donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Finnish Heritage Building Fund.
