Mr. Marcel Tookenay, age 70 years, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, April 11, 2016 with his family by his side.
Marcel was born in Schreiber, Ontario on August 1, 1945. In his early life, Marcel played hockey in Calgary, then played for the Port Arthur Marrs. He was part of the Fort William Canadians, playing for the Memorial Cup in the early 60s. Marcel also played for the Jacksonville Blades. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid sports fan. He loved to travel, play cards and enjoyed spending time with his family. Marcel worked for Clara Painting and was an Ironworker for many years. He also built houses for First Nations.
Marcel is survived by the mother of his children, Rita Fenton; his children Leo and Renee (Todd); grandchildren Milton, Dante, Ethan, Brandon, Alexander, Vanessa, Zen and Isaiah and great-grandchildren Avery, Sieanna, Peter and Abigail. He is also survived by his brother, Vincent (Rosemary); sister-in-law Vianna as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was predeceased by his parents, Leo and Margaret, brothers Melvin and Joseph, sisters Ethel (Reino), Nancy (Harley) and great-nephew Adam Ahola.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at 10:00 AM in St. Anne's Roman Catholic Church on the Fort William First Nation. Cremation will follow the service with interment at a later date. A time of fellowship and a luncheon will take place at the Fort William First Nation Community Centre following the Funeral Mass. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday evening from 6:00PM until 8:00PM in the Church with Vigil Prayers offered at 7:00PM.
