Margaret "Margie" Horbow
April 23, 1922 - August 28, 2014
In loving memory of Margaret “Margie” Olive Georgina Horbow, age 92 years, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Care Group (Transitional Care Unit , L.P.H.) on August 28, 2014.
Marg was born in Port Arthur at St. Joseph’s Hospital and is the last surviving child of pioneer parents Margaret (Gehl) and William P. Cooke Jr. Margie attended St. Andrew’s School and Port Arthur Tech (Hillcrest High School). She married William (Bill) Horbow on October 19, 1944 in St. Andrew’s R.C. Church.
He predeceased her on July 31, 1995. Margie remained in her home knitting her dish cloths “smuckas” and teddy bears and travelling to numerous destinations with the “dollies”.
She also liked to occasionally visit the casino. Her working years were spent at Eaton’s and ended with the closing of Kiddies Korner Children’s Clothing Store.
Margie will be remembered by her daughter Marilyn Miller (Leonard Corbett), son Mike of Winnipeg and special niece Linda Chaykowski (Lloyd) and their son Michael (Charlene). Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
She was predeceased by her husband Bill (1995), son William in infancy, son-in-law Robert (Bob) Miller (1993), sisters; Geraldine, Catharine and Helen and brothers; William, Arnold, Eddie and Herman.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 North Court at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Terry Sawchuk of St Peter’s R.C. Church presiding.
Immediately following the service in the chapel friends are invited to a luncheon at the Sargent Family Reception Centre. Margie will be laid to rest with her Billy on their 70th Wedding Anniversary at St. Andrew’s R.C. Cemetery following the reception.
