It is with profound sadness that the Kozyra family announces the passing of Maria Kozyra on June 24, 2011 in Montfort Hospital, Ottawa after a courageous month long battle with pneumonia. Maria was born on Feb. 2, 1923 in Bilawinci, Ukraine.
She was predeceased by her parents, Dmytro and Milanka Sysak, siblings Anna, Michael, Ilya and Wolodomir, her husband Ilko Kozyra and son Jerry Kozyra.
Maria is survived by her children: Taras (Pat), Hong Kong, China, Ihor (Sophie), Thunder Bay, Zen (Cathy), Maccau, China, Roman (Pam), Thunder Bay and Dr. Lesia Kozyra (Alain Roussel), Ottawa; daughter-in-law Lorri Kozyra, Thunder Bay, niece Irene Filteau (Paul), Thunder Bay, grandchildren: Tara Enns (Tim), Tana Houston (Joel), John Kozyra (Shelly), Mark Kozyra (Danielle), Lorisa Kozyra (Scott Whelan), James Kozyra, Jarren Kozyra, Justin Kozyra, Kris Kozyra, Amanda Kozyra, Elise Roussel, and Jordan Roussel; grandnephews Patrick Filteau, Michael Filteau, and Martin Filteau, great grandchildren: Maxwell Enns, Theo Enns, Josephine Enns, Charlotte Houston, Penelope Houston, and Simon Houston as well as by other relatives and many dear friends.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2011when family and friends will gather in the Ukranian Catholic Church of the Holy Cross for the Funeral Mass beginning at 10 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Andrija Petresin.
The interment will take place in St. Andrew’s Cemetery. Visitation for friends will be held in the Ukranian Catholic Church of the Holy Cross on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. with Panakhyda beginning at 7 p.m.
