Maria Maciupa (Oleksiuk) passed away peacefully on February 12, 2017 at the age of 90 at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Born in Luiv Ukraine, she came to Fort William (Thunder Bay) with her 1st husband dearest Jerry Oleksiuk, she later married her loving husband John. For 35 years, Maria was a hard working, dedicated RNA,at McKellar General Hospital. She was fondly called Mrs. “O” and remembered for her many wonderful qualities, giving advice, strength and kindness to all.
Maria was a devoted member of the Ukranian Catholic Church of the Transfiguration. She also loved her Ukranian community and her extended family.
She was predeceased by her parents, 1st husband, Jerry, brother, Michael, nephew, Walter, step daughter, Lesia (Alice) and various relatives in the Ukraine. Maria is survived and missed by her husband John, step daughter, Mary Ann (Mike) Black, grandsons, Jason,(Zelka,) Aaron (Kelly), great grandchildren, Nikolas and Markus, god daughter Olya (Toronto).
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 10:00am in The Church of the Transfiguration, celebrated by Rev. Vladimir Chvets. Interment at the Ukranian Catholic Cemetery, Arthur St. Panachyda will be offered on Wednesday evening at 7:00pm in the Blake Funeral Chapel.
