Mrs. Marion Drewes, age 53 years, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2021 at her home with family by her side.

Marion was the first New Year’s baby born at 1:48 a.m. on January 1st, 1968 in Port Arthur, Ontario. Marion worked at various office jobs until she started at Safeway Dawson Road in 1993 (until 2002). Marion always enjoyed working with and helping others, so she enrolled in massage therapy school (RMT). After graduation in 2000, she started her own business, Massage Mobility where she provided mobile care which included work-place massages and group homes for people who were not mobile. Massage Mobility was involved in the “CIBC Run-For-The-Cure” for many years.

Shortly after her cancer diagnoses in 2018, Marion closed Massage Mobility and decided to explore her creative/artistic side by joining the Applauze Productions Musical Theatre group known as Supernovaz, where she would sing a lead role in their Christmas 2018 performances. Her love of musical theatre would land her another role in “Charlotte Lucas”, hosted by ‘10x10 Play Showcase’ at Magnus Theatre in April 2019.

In June 2019, Marion joined her husband Glen for Thursday night practices with The Pipes & Drums of Thunder Bay. He was learning how to play the bagpipes; she was learning to play the tenor drums. It was something they could enjoy as a couple.

Marion was determined that she was going to beat her cancer, and she wanted to return to work in a different field, but still related to helping people. In the fall of 2019, she began the Recreational Therapy Program at Confederation College where she excelled.

In 2020 when the covid-19 pandemic hit, Marion went back to Safeway Dawson Road to work the front lines as a cashier, while she continued her studies in the recreational therapy program.

Marion was excited about starting a new career as a Recreation Therapist after graduating just a few weeks earlier.

Unfortunately, her cancer took no mercy and would eventually take Marion’s life, ending all that she had accomplished in such a short time, along with her plans.

Marion will be lovingly remembered and missed by her husband Glen, brother Stephen (Patricia Meredith), sister Donna, brothers-in-law Per (Janet), Torben (Lynne), Jack (Julie) and sisters-in- law Janet (Paul) Drewes-Dewaele, Maureen Drewes; nieces Katie, Jennifer (Jamie), Becky (Mat), and nephews Patrick Meredith-Karam, Eric (Arianne), Matthew, Chris (Carlie) and Kyle (godson) (Lyndsi) Drewes. Great-Aunt to Timothy, Brooke, Ava, Rustin, Logyn, Kacey and James.
She will also be missed by many aunts, uncles and cousins. Marion is predeceased by parents, Russell and Iris Karam, and her brother Andrew Karam.

The family would like to thank Dr. Adrien Chan, Dr. Kevin Bezanson, Dr. Margaret Anthes, and all the nurses and staff at the Thunder Bay Regional Cancer Care Northwest who looked after Marion. A special thank you to nurses Karen M. and Diane P. for going the extra mile to make Marion’s cancer journey a little more comfortable.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marion’s name to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation, Northwestern Ontario, https://www.healthsciencesfoundation.ca/northern-cancer-fund, or a charity of your choice.

Due to the Covid-19 restrictions a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 N. Cumberland St., Thunder Bay.
