With great sadness the family of Mark Edward Harris announces his sudden passing on Friday, January 29, 2016.

Mark was born in Port Arthur on August 21, 1955 to Albert (Ed) and Mary Harris, the second of seven children.

Mark attended Lake Superior State University on a hockey scholarship and after graduation went on to play in the Atlantic Coast Hockey League. An injury changed his career path but not his love of the game. He continued to play locally while coaching TBWHA teams and mentoring his daughters, nieces and nephews.

After a brief stint with CN Rail, he was hired by the City of Thunder Bay Fire Rescue which became the career that truly defined him. Retiring as a District Chief after 30 years of service, he was now able to enjoy his love of the outdoors as an avid hunter and fisherman. Skilled in all manner of carpentry, mechanics and electronics there were few problems he couldn't solve.

Mark was an ardent father, husband, uncle, son and brother. He loved his family and it showed everyday through his actions.
Predeceased by his father Albert, sister Michelle and brothers-in-law Brad Cuninghame and Bob Airns.

Survived by Joy, his wife of 35 years, daughters Rebecca (26) and Rachel (24), mother Mary, siblings Robin (Yvonne), Karen Airns, Ed, Laurie (Rob) Sitch, Dean (Barb), sisters-in-law Jill (Kevin) Sikkila and Jan (Dave) Fitz and his many nieces and nephews who were near to his heart.

Service will be held on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at 11:00am in St. Paul's Anglican Church. Visitation for family and friendswill be held on Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 Gore Street W. at James.

If friends so desire, donations made in memory of Mark to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Thunder Bay Fire Rescue Toys for Tots would be greatly appreciated.

Special thanks to Neebing Emergency Services and Superior North EMS for your response and compassion when we needed you.
