It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected death of our brother-in-law, Martti Arvi Tenander. His death follows the passing of his beloved wife (our beloved sister) Maxine Tenander. We had hoped to have him with us for many years to come, as he was happily a part of the Finnish Community at Southbridge Roseview, who have expressed how much they’ll miss his sense of humour and helpful personality.
But it seems true love cannot be confined to this time & space.
In his youth, he was an active member of the Boy Scouts, receiving honours for his involvement, and also served as an Altar Boy with the Anglican Church in Rouyn-Noranda. He began his professional career at Queen’s University, graduating as a Mining Engineer in 1970 and continuing on to a Master’s degree from McGill. Following his mining involvement, he worked for the Federal Development Bank, then Investor's Syndicate, graduating from their Advanced Financial Planner’s Program before establishing his own investment business, Tenander Financial Services.
Martti was a long-time member of benevolent organizations such as The Port Arthur Rotarians, the Knights of Kaleva, and the social club The Gyros, to name a few. He enjoyed participating with the Professional Engineers of Ontario Lakehead Chapter, in a performance at the Magnus Theatre… stating he was glad he hadn’t given up his day job!
Martti was serious, pragmatic, and well read. He loved jazz, and lunches & dinners with friends. He was the consummate gentleman, always impeccably dressed and well mannered. He truly loved his Finnish ancestry. Since he wasn't born with a hammer in his hands he relegated any carpentry work to his beloved Maxine and to his willing friends. Martti was born to be his own boss.
Martti was predeceased by his wife Maxine Tenander (Hughes), a few short months ago. He will be sadly missed by his remaining family and friends, particularly Don/Sharon and Laura Hughes, along with his nieces, nephew, and their children.
Funeral service will be held at Hilldale Lutheran Church on August 28th, at 11am. A light lunch will be served, followed by Martti’s Cremains being interred at Riverside Cemetery, where he will RIP with his beloved father Arvi and wife Maxine."
We sincerely hope you will join us,
Martti’s loving family.
