It is with profound sadness and heartbreak that the family of Mary (Maria) Motyka announces her passing on October 10, 2016 at the age of 95 after a brief illness with the family at her bedside.

Mary was born in Poland in 1921 to John and Mary Garbos. She immigrated to Canada (Fort William) with her husband and two children, to join her brother and sister and families. In brief Mary could be described as a quiet, patient, gentle, kind, hard working, open minded and family oriented.

Her home and her heart were always opened to everyone and no one left her home hungry. She was predeceased by her husband Walter in 1995, her sister Katherine Kosior and brother Lawrence Garbos as well as other siblings and relatives both in Poland and Canada. Left to mourn her passing are; her daughter Sophie, son John (Henia); granddaughters Donna (Andrew), Kane, children Megan and Jonny; Barbara Grosjean, children Kaylee, Grace, Thomas; sister Anna Walska (102 yr) in Poland and numerous nieces, nephews in Poland and Canada.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday October 13, 2016, when family and friends will gather for funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Casimir’s Church celebrated by Rev. Ireneusz Stadler. Interment will follow at St. Andrew’s Cemetery. Visitation will take place at 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. [one hour prior to mass] at St. Casimir’s. For those wishing, in lieu of flowers, donations to the TBRHSC Foundation or charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
