Mrs. Mary Nistico (nee Baratta), age 96 years, died on November 2nd, 2022 at Southbridge Roseview.

Mary was born in Port Arthur, Ontario April 11, 1926. She was a homemaker most of her married life but held various jobs as well. She worked at Can Car in her early days and as her family grew and left home she worked at the Spence Clinic and City Hall.

She met her husband John Nistico and they were married in 1945. They had five children Robert, Carmela, John, Janice and Ronald. Mary and John were married for 66 years.

Mary loved to knit and petit point. She also enjoyed golfing and did achieve a hole in one at Chapples Golf Course. Cloud Lake was where she and her husband John would spend their summers with family and friends. She loved the lake, especially the casual social life it provided. She was a very social person who enjoyed playing cards and also loved to travel.

She travelled to Australia, Scotland, Argentina and the southern states and the Caribbean with her husband John.

In the late 1980s, they left Thunder Bay and took up residence in Toronto, where they both worked in their retirement. Mary and John were ushers at the Pantages Theatre while the Phantom of the Opera was at its peak. They enjoyed Toronto, but came back every summer to spend time at Cloud Lake. They eventually returned to Thunder Bay to be with their family and spent more time at the Lake.

Mary will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her children Robert (Fern), Carmela, John (Donna-Rae) and Ron (Tina) and her grandchildren Jennifer, Patrick, Chantalle, Janine, Corin and Michelle and eleven great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents Guiseppe and Carmela Baratta, her husband John Nistico, daughter Janice, brothers Battista, Frank and Tony Baratta and nephew Joe Baratta.

Mary's family would like to thank the staff at Hilldale Retirement Home and especially the staff at Southbridge Roseview for the compassionate care they provided.

A celebration of Mary's life will take place on Friday November 11th, at 1:00 pm at St Anthony's Church on Hilldale Road with Funeral Mass celebrated by Rev. Luigi Filippini.

The Mass will be livestreamed and archived at www.harbourviewfuneral.ca, where condolences may be offered as well. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the local Alzheimer Society or the charity of your choice.
