Michael Robert Morsches, age 65 years, passed away peacefully in hospital on Friday, January 26, 2024.

Mike was born August 23, 1958 in Straelen, Germany. At the age of 10, along with his parents, he came to Canada, settling in Elliot Lake. While raising his young family and the pursuit of better work, they relocated to Thunder Bay in 1991. Mike had an incredible work ethic and made many friends along the way. He worked for Denison Mine, Buchanan Forest Products, and most recently, GridLink.

Mike’s greatest joy in life was becoming a Dad to his three girls. He was kind and supportive, loving and strong. As his girls grew with families of their own, he always loved spending time with them. Never needing a special occasion for a family dinner or BBQ. He also loved his Sunday calls to his family in Germany.

To know Mike was to know his love of motorcycles and his passion for the open road. He loved taking bike trips, especially to Sturgis, Wasaga Beach and Port Dover's Friday the 13th, just to name a few.

Mike's determination was seen over the last year, where his health struggles knocked him down and his will to regain his independence kept him going.

Survived by his loving wife, Leslie; beloved dog, Odie; cherished daughters and sons-in law, Erica and Jeff, Gabby and Kyle, and Stella and Geoffrey; and step-daughter, Brandi. He was a proud Opa to Evangeline, Vivienne, Axel, Shyanne, Kayla, Jessica and Christian. Also survived by his Aunt, Anna Maria; cousins, Anja and Fredrik (Elke) in Germany.

Predeceased by his parents Karl and Edeltraut; uncle, Bernd; and brothers, Ronnie and Gerry.

Special thanks to everyone at St. Joseph's Hospital for making him feel comfortable during his stay there and to Spinal Cord Injury Ontario, and Medical Equipment Modernization Opportunity (MEMO) for assisting his independence in his last months.

A Celebration of Mike’s life will be held at 1pm on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at North McIntyre Rec Centre, 2051 Government Road. If friends so desire, donations may be made to Spinal Cord Injury Ontario.
