With broken hearts, we share the passing of our Zizi, Nanda Claydon, on April 10th, 2025, at the age of 68— a devoted wife, sister, aunt, friend, and, above all, the light of our lives. To us, she wasn’t just special — she was our favourite person, in every way.
Nanda spent 45 beautiful years by the side of her beloved husband, Robert, pouring love and thoughtfulness into every moment they shared. Simply enjoying the quiet comfort of each other’s company, their love was built on the kind of little things that, in the end, mean everything. You'll find her there if you look up the definition of unconditional love. She lived it every single day.
To know Nanda was to feel truly seen. She had a rare and beautiful gift — the ability to love people exactly as they were. She listened with her whole heart, remembered the tiniest details, and gave with incredible generosity. If you ever mentioned something in passing — a favourite treat, or something that made you smile — Nanda would show up with it tenfold. It was her way of saying, I heard you, You matter to me.
And oh, how she baked. Nanda had a magic touch in the kitchen — her biscotti, cookies, and homemade treats didn’t just taste good, they carried comfort, warmth, and love in every bite.
During her career at Union Gas, her dedication and compassion went far beyond the workplace. She organized fundraisers, sold cookbooks and handmade blankets, organized the parade of lights, and walked countless miles supporting those she loved — always giving, always with heart, and never seeking recognition.
Nanda will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Robert Claydon and dog Ella.
She leaves behind her siblings, Susan (Sal), Josie, Maria (David), and Bruno (Michelle), and her sister-in-law Diane (Dale) — each of whom held a special place in her heart.
She also leaves behind her nieces and nephews, to each she was so much more than an aunt. She was a second mother (momma di cuore), a guiding light, a source of unwavering love to; Cathy (John), Gina (Dean, Abby, Scott, Cale, & Jess), Michael (Michelle, Evan, Andria, Ethan, Amber, Eric, & Camryn), Trisha (Darren, Lauryn, Meagan, Maliaka & Theo), Michael (Sonia & Eva), Gio (Fisher & Gage), Mark (Erin, Lauren, Zoe, & Keegan), Matthew (Sabrina, Hailey, & Brandon), Kyle and cousins JoJo, Mary, and Susie— each one felt the depth of her love and the joy of being truly cherished by her.
Nanda is now reunited with her parents, Biagina and Michele Zaffino; her mother and father-in-law, June and Ronald Claydon; her cousins Raffaela and Joe Iorfida; and her brother-in-law, Clarence Lamers — all of whom she missed dearly and carried with her in spirit.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Oncology Unit for surrounding Nanda with comfort and care. We are also deeply grateful to the staff of St. Joseph’s Hospital and hospice staff— especially Dr. Migay and his team — for their compassion, warmth, and dedication during Nanda’s final days.
A private celebration for Nanda’s life will be held at a later date. In her honour and to carry out her selfless legacy, we ask you please donate to the Thunder Bay Regional Cancer Centre or St. Joseph’s Hospice St. Joseph’s Hospice.
