On Friday, October 9th, Mr. Nicholas Bloom passed away at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre at the age of 76.

Born in Port Arthur on July 8, 1939, he was raised and educated in the city.

Valuing hard work, he soon found a job he loved with the Canadian Coast Guard on the CCGS Alexander Henry as an engineer in the 1960s. He travelled the Great Lakes and enjoyed recounting stories of his days on "the ship". He married Francesca Bloom (nee Bruno) and returned to Thunder Bay to raise a family and to work at Palm Dairies as a truck driver, where he established good friendships with the people he visited. His main passion was owning and maintaining his GM cars.

Nick is survived by his wife, Francesca; daughter Diane; son Rob (Anna Lisa) and their children Aiddan and Ethan, of Ottawa; brother Edward (Beverly); in-laws Mario (Rosa), Antonio (Anna-Maria), Alfredo (Lina), Nino, Ida, Victoria, Sarina (Franco); numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents David and Amelia; sister Rita; brothers-in-law Vittorio and Arnie.

Funeral Mass for Mr. Bloom will be held on Saturday, October 17th at 2 pm (visitation at 1 pm) at Corpus Christi Church on Red River Rd. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Lung Association or to a charity of your choice.
