Mr. Onesto Corsini, age 90 years, passed away peacefully at the T.B.R.H.S.C. on Monday, July 1, 2024, with loving family at his side. Onesto was born in Fellicarolo, Italy on January 12, 1934, the son of Giovanni and Isolina Corsini. He immigrated to Port Arthur in 1967, where he met up with his best friend Mario Pasquali and found employment working at Great Lakes Forest Products. Onesto met the love of his life, Maria Filice in 1975. The two married in 1977, raising their son Dino.

Every weekend, Onesto could be found playing cards with his friends, Mario, Elde, Yolanda, Tom, Victoria, Luigi and Tony. His garden was his prized possession and he spent many hours tending to it; often showing off his tomatoes. He enjoyed making wine every year. Not a lunch nor a dinner would go by without his wine being placed on the table. He was a kind and gentle man who always loved travelling to Italy and surrounding himself with family and friends.

There was nothing more important to Onesto than family. His proudest moment began in 2010 when he became Nonno. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for Christian or Chiara. Despite his age, Nonno could be found pushing a swing, playing soccer or getting down on the floor to play cards. He cherished every moment with his grandchildren, they were the light of his life. When it was time for them to go home, he always said the same two words, “Be good.”

Onesto was a proud member of the Gruppo Alpini di Thunder Bay, a member of the Davinci Centre, the Italian Cultural Centre and the Slovenian Association. Onesto will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his wife Maria, son Dino (Denise), grandchildren Christian and Chiara, sisters Liliana (Romolo) Ranieri and Ebe Bellettini, brother-in-law Dante Ballochi, sisters-in-law Michelle Corsini and Alba Filice as well as by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was predeceased by his parents, sister Marianna Ballochi, brother Adeodato Corsini and brothers-in-law Arrigo Bellettini and Mario Filice.

The loss of a parent is hard, they are a connection to our past and often what brings us together as a family. We will continue to raise a glass and celebrate his memory with a “Salute!”

The Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 9th when family and friends will gather in St. Anthony’s R.C. Church for the Funeral Mass beginning at 11 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Luigi Filippini. Visitation will be held in the church for 1 hour prior to Mass. Those unable to attend the service in person may do so via live stream at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LO2wE0HbEw. The entombment will take place at Our Lady of Charity Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations in Onesto’s name are greatly appreciated and can be made to the St. Joseph’s Foundation-Manor House or the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay.
