Mr. Peter John Wawia, age 79 years, passed away peacefully in St. Joseph's Care Group on Friday, June 10, 2016.
Peter was born in Gull Bay on May 7, 1937. He worked various jobs throughout his life. Peter enjoyed fishing, trapping, canoeing and camping. He was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous for over 20 years, leading meetings in his home. Peter was proud of his community and was respected as an Elder in Gull Bay. He was always willing and ready to help anyone in need. Peter was a kind, special man and will be forever missed by his family and friends.
Peter is survived by his many nieces, nephews and relatives as well as his son, Doug and daughter, Colleen.
He was predeceased by his wife, Carol; his parents, Martin and Emma Wawia as well as his brothers, Moses, Francis, and Eli and his sisters, Lucy, Jane, Louise, Mary and Josephine.
A Visitation for the late Peter Wawia will be held on Monday, June 13, 2016 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma with Vigil Prayers offered at 7:00pm. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at 2:00pm in the Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, Gull Bay, celebrated by Father Larry Kroker . Interment will take place in Gull Bay Cemetery. A reception will follow the service at the Community Centre.
