Robert “Bob” William Alexander Findlay passed away peacefully on April 5, 2025, with his wife and family by his side. His strength and mightiness bringing him to the ripe age of 89 years “young”.
Bob was born on December 24, 1935, in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. He worked at Algoma Steel for majority of his career until his retirement in 1991.
Bob loved the great outdoors, hunting, fishing, canoeing, snowmobiling, quadding and camping, the odd time with friends, but mostly accompanied by his wife Roberta and his family. He was a powerful man, many memories from his kids were of dad portaging through the bush, with a canoe and motor over his head and backpack on his back.
Bob made friends anywhere and everywhere he went. He was known for driving down the road and pulling over at a perfect stranger’s house to see if they were “selling that canoe” he had spotted in their backyard.
Bob was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and over the years, served as both an elder and ministerial servant, in the different congregations he was part of. He was well loved, especially by the youth, as he showed genuine care and interest in them and their wellbeing.
Although Bob will be dearly missed by his wife Bertie and by his family, their firm hope in the Bible reassures them of God’s promise to see their loved ones once again. Revelation 21:3,4.
Bob was born of William “Bill” Findlay and Solange “Sally” Findlay (nee Tremblay), both predeceased. He had 3 siblings Linda Hurd (nee Findlay, predeceased), Melvin Findlay (predeceased) and Esther Muncaster (nee Findlay).
Bob is survived by and will be greatly missed by his beautiful and beloved wife Roberta “Bertie” Stella Findlay (nee Moss). June 11 of this year would have marked their 70th wedding anniversary…a true testimony of both their love and endurance.
Bob had five children with his wife Bertie. Starting with the eldest Robert “Bobby” Findlay (wife Kathy), Bonnie Morgan (husband Greg), Timothy “Tim” Findlay (wife Terry), Wendy Sheppard (husband Scott) and Tamme Masters (husband Karl). Bob also had 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
The family would like to give a special thank you and acknowledgment to the doctor, nurses and PSW’s at the Bethammi Nursing Home for all of the love and tender care they provided to Bob during his stay there and especially during his final days. A special thank you to Selina and Michelle for always “making his day”. Also special thanks to the brothers and sisters from the Silver Falls congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses for generously providing comfort and support, including meals during this time. And thank you to Harbourview Funeral Centre for taking care of the funeral arrangements. The staff has been exceptional to work with!
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 10 at 2:00 pm at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, located at 1034 Oliver Road in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
