It is with heavy hearts that the family of Robert “Bobby” Cassidy announces his passing on Sunday February 15th, 2015. He was surrounded by his family.

Robert, affectionately called “wee Bobby” by his friends, was born in Glasgow Scotland in 1935, and immigrated to Canada (Thunder Bay) with his wife Margaret and their children in 1966. Just in time to see the Toronto Maple Leafs win the Stanley Cup.

Bobby was employed with the Lakehead Public Schools as a custodian for over thirty years and retired from Balsam Street School in 1996.

He loved sports, especially hockey (he was a faithful “Leafs” fan) and football (soccer). He played and coached local men’s league soccer for many years and made friendships that lasted a lifetime.

Above all, Bobby loved to spend time with his family, especially his twelve grandchildren, whom he was so proud of. He looked forward to any opportunity for family gatherings, such as fishing and camping, where he could have a good old sing song. He was the best husband, dad, and grandfather we could have ever wanted. He truly loved us and we truly loved him with all our hearts.

Bobby will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years; Margaret, his sons John and Brian (Barb), his daughters Helen and Ann Margaret (Jody), his grandchildren Robert, Adam, Kyle, Anson, Jordon, Kirren, Cameron, Kevin, Tyler, Justin, Katie and Aiden as well as by numerous other relatives in Scotland and Canada. He was predeceased by his son Joseph and by his parents.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Bobby’s VON nurse Donna and to Arron, his nurse practitioner, without whom we could not have provided Dad the great care he received.

Funeral Services for Bobby will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday February 21st, 2015 in the Chapel of the HARBOURVIEW FUNERAL CENTRE, 499 North Cumberland Street, and will be officiated by Msgr. P.M. Stilla V.G. of St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Family and friends may gather in the Chapel up to one hour prior to service time. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers donations may be made in Bobby’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of your choice.
