Dad

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Father and Grandfather. Robert (Bob/Butch) Dean Maracle, age 73 years, passed away peacefully in his sleep, with his loving family by his side on Thursday November 30, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Care Group, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Robert was born in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory on January 31, 1944, the first born son of Harold Sr. and Gene Maracle. He moved to, and lived most of his life, in Thunder Bay, ON. Growing up he was a recognized athlete excelling in baseball, basketball and hockey, and in his teen years Robert was known for organizing city teen dance parties at the YMCA. He enjoyed fishing with his buddies and was an avid Leafs fan, but his greatest pride and joy were his granddaughters, Sabrina, Cristina and Zoe. He will forever be remembered for his quick one-liners, his thoughtfulness, generosity and selfless nature, always thinking of others before himself.

Robert will be greatly missed by his daughter Stephanie (Rob) Agostino, son Ryan (Lara); granddaughters Sabrina and Cristina, and Zoe; Grace Maracle (Zanette); Brother Harold Maracle Jr (Gayle); numerous nieces, nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, Harold Sr. and Gene Maracle, Janis (Peter Sas), Richard Maracle (Sharon) and Beverly Maracle.

Heartfelt thanks to our family and friends for your love and support, and to the doctors and nurses on the oncology floor at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences and St. Josephs Hospice, your compassion and kindness was second to none.

Cremation has taken place, as per Roberts wishes, and a private gathering for family and friends will be held at a later time. In honour of Robert, should friends so desire, donations to St. Joseph’s Sleeper Chair-ity Campaign would be appreciated.
