The family of Bob Elvin announces with great sadness, his passing on Friday, December 10, 2021 at the age of 78 years.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Bev and his children Kristen and Tyler (Christine) as well as his sister Maureen Williamson of Toronto. He was predeceased by his parents Jim and Vera Elvin and his sister Lynn.

Bob spent his career teaching at Hammarskjold High School. He especially enjoyed coaching basketball and was the first coach in Thunder Bay to take his regional championship basketball team (SSSAA) to Toronto to compete for the provincial title (OPSAA) three years in a row. Bob enjoyed a special friendship with the guys that he worked with in the Physical Education Department. He continued his love of basketball by playing in the senior city league, where he enjoyed many happy times and developed a special friendship with the team members.

Bob also enjoyed most summers at the family camp at Arrow Lake. He displayed and developed his carpentry skills when he, with the help of friends, built an impressive addition to the camp. At the camp, he taught his kids to water ski, fish and develop other skills.

Bob and Bev realized the value in travelling for their family, and they travelled, along with close friends, on ski holidays and to Hawaii, Florida and Mexico together. Bob and Bev also spent 17 fun filled winters in Arizona, meeting new friends and enjoying times with other Thunder Bay friends in Havasu as well.

In retirement, Bob joined the ROMEOS breakfast group and took up the sport of golfing.

During the last 2 years of his life, Bob faced many challenges, but he appreciated the kindness and help of many incredible people. We would like to send a special thank you to Sheila Noyes, Ron and Wendy Haworth and all of the friends who called and took the time to visit. We also appreciated the wonderful neighbours that we have at home and at the camp.

Bob wanted to thank Dr. Del Paggio and Dr. Bezanson for their care and their help. He also appreciated the nurses at the Cancer Centre as well as the wonderful support team set up by Lynda and Don, which allowed him to stay at home until the end.

Due to COVID restrictions, a celebration of Bob's life will be held on an invitation basis on Thursday, December 16, 2021 in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James. A video recording of the service will be available on the Everest of Thunder Bay website beginning on Thursday afternoon.

For those invited to attend the service, proof of double vaccination and I.D. is mandatory and wearing of face masks is required.

If friends desire, a donation made in Bob's memory to the Northern Cancer Fund (payable to the TBRHSF) would be most appreciated.
