It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Guy Lockhart who died unexpectedly on Saturday, March 20, 2010. Bob will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of almost 42 years, Diane (nee Taylor), his daughters Leslie Prpic (Gene) and Allison Leschuk (Marc) and his grandchildren Emily, Andrew and Quinn. He is survived by his mother, Allison Lockhart (formerly of Timmins) and his three brothers: Doug (Anne-Marie) of Breadalbane, P.E.I., Brian of Calgary, AB, and Bruce (Donna) of Oakville, ON, and many nieces and nephews. He will also be sadly missed by his wife Diane’s family: Donald Taylor (Shirley), Patricia Shurie (Jim), Alice Kelneck (Ike), Clara Addison (Bob), and Marion Rhyno (Gary). Bob is reunited with his father, Robert Findley Lockhart, who passed away in 1992.
Bob was born in Sudbury in 1942 and later moved and grew up in Timmins. He pursued his education as a civil engineer at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario where he met his soul mate Diane. After Bob accepted a position at Canada Car in 1972, Bob and Diane settled and raised their family in Thunder Bay. Along his career path Bob pursued surveying, self-contracting, and eventually engineering at Bombardier where he retired as Director of Engineering in 2000. Formal retirement, however, would not slow Bob down as he continued to work as a consultant for Go Transit of Toronto for several years.
Bob loved the great outdoors and was always eager to undertake new adventures. He spent countless hours tending his garden and greenhouse, maintaining his homestead, and boating and fishing. Above all, however, Bob was a family man who thoroughly enjoyed trips with his family and, more recently, expeditions on Lake Superior and Dog Lake and through the Northwestern Ontario wilderness with his grown family and grandchildren.
We would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Debbie, the charge nurse in the E.R. at T.B.R.H.S.C., the security guard on duty, Dr. Green and the other E.R. doctors, the O.P.P., and the E.M.S. team for their compassion and support.
A celebration of Bob’s life will take place on Tuesday, April 6th, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, if family and friends so desire, donations made in Bob’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated as an expression of sympathy.
