Rodney Lauri Maki passed away peacefully, as he lived, on December 12, 2021. His family was by his side. He was 90 years old. He was a resident of Pioneer Ridge.
Rod grew up in Port Arthur and moved to Lakeshore Drive to raise his family with his wife Eadie who passed away in 1980. He loved his children and his grandchildren and showed his interest in their lives by the unique gifts he gave them. He worked in the lab at Provincial Papers. He was a member of both Bethel and Hilldale Lutheran churches. He had a curiosity of all things and a passion to work with the earth. He enjoyed building and was in his element while landscaping and working with flowers at his home as well as at his camp at Eva Lake. He was gifted with that talent. He welcomed people to his home which was a refuge to many. He enjoyed get togethers especially with family and friends. Prior to his illness, he enjoyed curling and dancing.
Rod’s greatest gift was the spirit that he was blessed with that could be seen in his gentle face and warm sincere smile. He was a thoughtful and patient soul who delighted in the joys of others. He would lend a hand or help wherever needed. He was a good friend to confide in. Rod was a light in all our lives. That is what we are missing. He was and still is loved.
He is survived by daughters Bonnie (Bruce) McLeod and Kelly (Kerry) Taggart, grandchildren Hillary Bohler (Curtis Craig), Alexander Bohler, John St. James, Colin St. James (Brittany Thatcher) and sister Judy Maki and brother-in-law Bob Shepherd as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Eadie Maki, son Roddy Maki, son David Maki, grandson Michael St. James, parents Jenny and Lauri Maki, sister Lorna Tilson and brother-in-law Ken Tilson and great nephew Zachery Tilson-Ozarko.
Rod’s faith was in our Lord Jesus Christ in whom we all have hope. Rest in His grace sweet soul in peace and love.
An open mic visitation will be held in the chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre on Friday, December 17th from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. where family and friends are welcome to share stories.
