Aug 21, 1939 - April 5, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rose Browning, 85, on April 5, 2025 at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Born in 1939 and raised in Sudbury, Rose also lived in Toronto, Prince Rupert, and Red Rock, but she loved Thunder Bay the most and called it home since the 70s.

Rose really enjoyed live music and programs like The Voice. Her favourites were Elvis, Neil Diamond, and Blake Shelton. She also enjoyed family get-togethers, people and bird watching, flowers and houseplants, going for a drive, and her beloved cat Princess. In days past she enjoyed bowling, dancing, fishing, going for bike rides, and visiting with friends.

Rose graduated from Shaw Business College in 1958 and some of the places she worked in included Bell Canada, CP Rail, McCartney & McCartney Law, and National Rubber Company. Though she worked mostly in an office setting, Rose also waitressed in her father’s restaurant in Toronto as a teen, cleaned fish in a cannery in B.C., and looked after a youth hostel near Nipigon one summer. She retired in 1998 after 18 years with the WSIB in various roles, including time as an Adjudicator.

Rose was predeceased by former spouses Jim, Don and Richard, her son Robert, stepson Dan, 3 sisters; Sonia, Carol, and Evelyn, and her parents.

Rose leaves behind her daughters Jamie and Brynda, stepson George, sister Julie, step-grand-kids Ian and Carrie, step-great-grandkids, nieces and nephews and their families, and many dear friends.

As per Rose’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Internment at Sunset Memorial Gardens and a celebration of life will be held in the spring.

Many thanks to the staff at the Regional and St. Joseph’s hospitals, especially to all the amazing, caring nurses. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Thunder Bay Humane Society in Rose’s name may be made.
