With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Rudolph "Rudy" Hulina, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on March 16, 2025, with his devoted family by his side. Born on February 16, 1938, in Fort William, Rudy was a man whose kindness touched the lives of all who knew him.

Rudy was the beloved husband of Gail Hulina, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and companionship. Their partnership was a cornerstone of his life, and together they raised a family that became his pride and joy. He was a devoted father to Kevin (wife Christie) and Richard (wife Shannon). Rudy's role as a grandfather was one he cherished deeply, doting on his grandchildren Brodie (Alyssa), Teale (Christian), Brooke (Nolan), and Amanda.

Rudy's educational journey began in his hometown, where he graduated from Fort William Collegiate, a foundation that set him on a path to North Bay Teachers College. It was there that he honed the skills and passion that would define his career as a teacher. Rudy spent many rewarding years as a teacher at Ignace Public School, where he left a lasting impact on the lives of countless students through his dedication to their growth and learning.

Beyond the classroom, Rudy's talents and interests were many and varied. An accomplished athlete, he was a proud member of the 1958 Fort William Redskins football team, contributing to the teams one and only national championship victory that still lives in the Northwestern Ontario Hall of Fame.

Rudy's passion for life extended to his hobbies, which included fishing, flying, dancing, and spending time with his family. He had a particular talent for wood working and model building, including building the homes where his sons would start their families. Rudy would often be found out flying his J3 cub through the skies of Ignace on his way to catch a limit of walleyes, which he did until the age of 80 years old. His love for music filled his home with joy and provided a soundtrack for the many happy moments he shared with family and friends.

As we say farewell to Rudy, we reflect on a life well-lived. We honour a man who taught us the value of kindness, the importance of family, and the joy of living each day with a full heart. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the stories told, the lessons passed down, and the love that continues to ripple through the lives of those he touched.

Predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Elizabeth Hulina, and his in-laws, Sophie and Dick Ward. Rudy is survived by his dear sister Margaret Dychko, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

We want to say a big thank you to all our friends and family for their unwavering love and support. And a special thank you to the staff on 1A at the TBRHSC and the TCU for the compassionate care they provided to Rudy and the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made to the Transitional Care Unit. A celebration of life will be held on Monday March 24, 2025 from 1-4pm at the Slovak Legion.
