Ruth Ida Collins (nee Hancock) passed away peacefully February 21, 2017 with family by her side.

Ruth was born July 16, 1929 in Fort William, the daughter of Harold and Alma Hancock.She was raised on the family farm in the Slate River Valley. Ruth attended public school in a one room school house in the valley,
then attended F.W.C. I., Toronto Teachers College graduating with honours, and Lakehead University graduating with a degree in history. Ruth was employed with the Lakehead Board of Education, where she taught for 40 years classes ranging from kindergarten to grade 8, and Special Education classes. Ruth married Richard Collins in August 1952 and they had two daughters Mary and Susan. She loved to travel but her real passion was for her family.

Ruth is survived by her daughter Mary, sister Jean Davidson (Wilmur), brother Edward (Diane), sister-in-law Dallas Hancock, grandson Stephen Hawkins (Cathy), along with numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
She will be sadly missed.

Ruth was predeceased by her parents Harold and Alma Hancock, brother Jack, husband Richard and daughter Susan.

Funeral services for Ruth Collins will be held Thursday, March 2, 2017, 1:00 p.m. at St. Thomas Church, Edward Street. If friends so desire, donations can be made in Ruth's memory to the charity of their choice.
Cremation has taken place and interment will be held at a later date at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff of 4 North at Hogarth Riverview Manor for the excellent care given to Ruth.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 332 North May Street, Thunder Bay.
