Mom was not one to want any fuss but she was so special to us. Shirley Ilene Perron (Ball) passed away on June 24, 2021 at the age of 85 years at St Joseph Hospital Hospice in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Shirley was one of 13 children and was born in Novar, Ontario on August 4, 1935. Shirley briefly worked in Geraldton including peeling pulp logs, then lived in Timmins where she had 6 children and worked, including at Woolworth’s on 3rd Ave. She also lived in South Porcupine and Schumacher, Courtenay and Chilliwack B.C., before moving to Thunder Bay in 2018.
Mom enjoyed making perogies for her family and they never lasted long, no matter how many she made. She liked camping, fishing, and bowling, and was a Legion member in her earlier years. Shirley enjoyed seeing everyone at family reunions and was proud of her red sunfire. Mom wanted to look her best so she always got up early to be ready on time. More recently Mom was speedy at puzzle making and you could not bring one that had been done before, as she would always remember. Mom put a lot of thought into what she was able to do for others. While in Thunder Bay Shirley enjoyed her niece’s visits, going for lunch, having supper at her son’s place and her many telephone conversations.
Shirley is survived by 5 of her children including Dwight Kremer (Cathy Cavalier) of Thunder Bay, Gregory Kremer of B.C., Michael Kremer of Ottawa, and Melanie (Tom) Stanley (Chenier) of Yellowknife, as well as in-laws, siblings, grandchildren (great great grandmother), nieces including Barb Hicks of Collingwood, and nephews. Shirley was predeceased by her parents Velma Ball (Murphy) and Ernest Ball.
Thank you P.R. Cook Apartments, Thunder Bay Regional Hospital, and St Joseph Hospital for your time with and care of Mom while she was in Thunder Bay. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to P.R. Cook Apartments of St Joseph Care Group.
There is no formal service as per Shirley’s wishes. A private interment is planned for later this year in Huntsville. Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 332 North May Street, Thunder Bay.
