Mr. Silverio De Sousa, age 85 years of Winnipeg Avenue, passed away after a short illness in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre with family by his side on Thursday, March 17, 2011.
Born in Ponta Delgada, Azores, Portugal on June 16, 1925, Silverio immigrated to Canada in 1957 to provide a better life for his young family. He was married to Maria Rosa De Sousa in 1951.
He worked for Barnett McQueen and was involved in the construction of many bridges and mines across Canada. In 1967 he joined Lakehead University Maintenance Department where he worked until his retirement in 1990. Silverio enjoyed his garden, fishing and wood carving. He was also a member of St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church. His family was his greatest love.
Survived by his wife Maria Rosa De Sousa; children Joua (Susan), Teresa (David) and Joseph (Allison); grandchildren James, Sarah, Ryan and Gregory and a brother Jose. Numerous nieces and nephews survive in Canada and Portugal.
Predeceased by his parents Virginio and Maria De Estrela (nee Medeiros); brothers Mariano, Manuel and Virginio; sisters Maria de Encarnacao Raposo and Almorinda Branco.
Funeral services for the late Mr. Silverio De Sousa will be held on Monday, March 21, 2011 leaving the Everest Funderal Chapel, 299 Waverley St. at Algoma at 8:50 a.m. to St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church for the Funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m.
Private family interment to take place in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday evening after 5 p.m. in the Everest Chapel with Vigil Prayers offered at 7 p.m.
