With heavy hearts, we the family announce the passing of Silvio Bisignano, 90 years of age, on Saturday, November 9, 2024, with family by his side. Silvio was a cherished Husband, Father, Nonno, and Great Nonno.
Silvio was born on September 21, 1934, in Luzzi, Cosenza, Italy. In 1958, he married his soulmate, Carolina (Chimenti), and they immigrated to Canada on March 14, 1967, along with their two children. Here, he was delighted to be reunited with his parents and siblings.
Upon his arrival, Silvio quickly started his first job at Supersonic Car Wash. Having a better opportunity in June 1967, he proceeded to Anderson Block and Tile (B&B Masonry), until 1991.
Silvio was a caring and humble man, with a selfless mannerism. His kindness knew no bounds, and was extended to all. The love for his grandchildren was infinite, his heart would light up each time he saw them, and he would often be heard speaking highly of them. Silvio always had other people’s interests at heart and wouldn’t even harm a fly. This was evident, as he would always open a door to guide a fly out of the house to set it free.
His favourite pastimes were tending to his meticulous garden and making homemade wine, tomato sauce, and soppressata which he generously shared with family, friends, and neighbours.
Silvio was a long-time parishioner of St. Dominic’s Church and member of the Senior Club. He was also an active member of Principe Di Piemonte, where he took great pride serving as an Honour Guard.
Silvio faced adversity having gone through a quadruple bypass, but this didn’t impact his strong-will and optimism to get better. Sadly, later in life, he battled with multiple cancers until his final days.
Silvio will be sorely missed by his loving wife, Carolina; son Pino “Joe” (Debbie) Bisignano, daughter Silvana (Vito) Carello; his cherished grandchildren Stacey (Kyle) and Stephanie Bisignano, Sal (Marnie) and Dario (Jacquie) Carello; his precious great-grandchildren Karter, Kohen, and Alivia.
Also fondly remembered by brother Mario (Anna); sister Rita (Guido); brother and sister in-laws Michele, Franca, Elvira, Franco (Rosetta), Teresa, and numerous nieces, nephews, Godchildren and friends, near and far.
Silvio was predeceased by his loving parents, Giuseppe and Concetta; in-laws Saverio and Maria; brothers Salvatore, Emilio, Guerino, Frank, and Elio; sister Ida Chimenti; brother and sister in-laws Gerarda, Assunta, Ida; Achille, Giuseppe, Gaetano and Carmela (Italy); nephews Joe, and Sergio.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Dr. R. Williams, Dr. Aseyev and the amazing staff at the Thunder Bay Regional Cancer Centre, and St Joseph’s Hospice for their exceptional and compassionate care.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 14, when family and friends will gather for Funeral Mass at 11:00 at St. Dominic’s Church, celebrated by Rev. Michael Mahoney. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the Mass. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Should family or friends so desire, donations to St Joseph’s Care Group (Hospice) or The Mark Preece Family House (Hamilton, ON), would be greatly appreciated.
Silvio was a kindhearted and good-natured man of unwavering moral character.
Riposa in pace Nonno
